Soil maps are frequently used in land use planning to represent the diversity of soil properties on a landscape. These maps with accompanying reports provide valuable information for the use and management of soils. Soil properties such as color, texture, structure and consistence, redoximorphic features, etc are examined in the field to identify map units of similar properties. Critical information such as saturated hydraulic conductivity can be interpreted from field observations.
